St Genies

Saint Genies is a pretty village in the Dordogne about half way between Sarlat and Montignac.

In the centre of the town is the castle and church. The church was built in the 12th century and has a fortified bell-tower dating from the 14th century. The castle started life as two parallel buildings originally separated by a street but linked in the 16th century. The castle has a square tower and an overall tower and is now a restaurant with a lovely courtyard. There is also a small Gothic chapel in the town with interesting frescoes inside.

Every Sunday morning there is a market in the main square of Saint Genies with local product for sale.

During the summer months of July and August there is a night market, held on a Wednesday night. At this market tables are laid out in the square and you can go from stall to stall choosing entrees, main course and dessert from the stalls, its a lovely way to spend a summer evening.
